The Context

The screening of the TED Talks was taken up to develop in the Students an integrated value for the education with which they were being processed. The Ideas worth spreading was the context taken into consideration and TED Talks have fulfilled with the Motto. The World’s greatest ideas have to be gelled with the local colour after the screening of these TEDs . The initiative is to spark and celebrate theideas and knowledge sharing of Teachers and Students around the world .

The Practice

The Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) Talks is the practice of the screening of the TED Talks in the College is followed by all the Departments with the relevant TED Talks of their Subject. The TED Talks are a huge trend these days for discovering new ideas, new ways of doing Business and a host of other exciting and thought-provoking topics in fields such as Band and much more. The TED Talks contain the information, but at their best, they actually spark a conversation. Theybring diverse voices in Basic Sciences, Human Sciences, Humanities, Languages and Technology and questions intothe classroomdiscussions. We are educating the Students to learn their creative capacities. This is the purpose of the TED Talks to be fulfilled in the present era.

The IQAC at the beginning of the Academic Year prepares a Master Time-Table and this Plan of Action is displayed on the Notice Board and accordingly every Department has to screen atleast one TED Talk in each Semester.

The Topic of TED Talk to be screened is explained by the Faculty of the Department by focusing on its relevance to the field and its objectives. The Screening of the TED solidifies with the understanding of the content . Then, later in the discussion Session the Topic is resolved in the interactive mode and the opinion is collected from the Students. Finally, a detailed Report is preparedin a pre-defined Format. Further it is uploaded in the College Website.

The ICT enabled Seminar Halls/Lecture Halls are used for the screening of the Talks.

The need of the hour is hereby fulfilled by all the Departments of the College with them going along with the Technology.. The students are hence able to blend with the latest trends and ideas of the present generation which help them build a new World.

Evidence of Success:

The TED Talks are playing a dominant role, in the criteria of understanding the assigned relevant topic. This practice inculcates the indepth knowledge accumulation of the Topic other than the Curriculum is a vintage here. The ultimate beneficiaries are the Faculty and the Students. This innovative practice has designated a quality to the Learning process and has lifted the concept of study to a much higher level.

The series of TED Talks shown to the Students of all the Departments hold the spreading of ideas with the maximum time limit of 18 mins. But this short span of time does not hold any limitation in the acquisition of the knowledge.

The IT Infrastructure of the College has been enhanced with the introduction of this practice as per its requirement.

The TED Talks have brought about the incremental growth with regard to the Teaching and Learning process.

Problems Encountered and Resources required:

The introduction of this practice witnessed initial hurdles . The first was the time limitation set for these Talks by TED as maximum 18 minutes. Also apart from this the medium of instruction was English. The accent was British / American which was difficult to follow for our Students. Later, the area of location of our College which is considered to be having certain inhibitions for using English in the spoken form and also the Programmes of Arts with Humanities and Languages (which includes the vernacular languages) all together posed as the challenges. This was later successfully addressed with the explanation of the concept, before screening of the Talk by the Faculty. This made them get acquainted with the topic explained and also the Talks with the subtitles made the students to understand the content of the Talk.

Notes:

This Best Practice of our Institution has created a scenario of upgrading of the knowledge with Technology. The globalization of the thoughts and the spreading of the new ideas can be catered with this practice. All these motives can be approached by all the Institutions if the TED Talks is applied as a part of their Academic activities.

Evidence of Success:

This practice has helped the Students

The Student of our Kendra, Shri Ramasingh R. Rajput was entitled as ‘Public Hero’ in one of the famous ‘Public TV’ Channel Programme for his contribution in enlisting this language to regain its former glory.

Problems Encountered and Resources required:

The Sanskrit is not a Mother tongue in this present scenario and hence its not so easy to convince to be the Students for this Language. This language is the Mother of almostall the Indian languages. But yet the prominence is notwell composed for the use of this language in the Public strata of the Society.
